I am not a parent. I am not a student. I am not a teacher. I have no vested interest. I do not support private education in any form. I pay my taxes for public education, just as I do for health care and other public and social services. Stop underfunding public education and return democratic control to the school boards, especially the Vancouver School Board. I don’t want the Province dictating terms to the board the people of Vancouver elected. You wouldn’t be doing this to that bunch of boot-licking N.P.A.ers if they were in power at the V.S.B. If you are so hung up about the district’s budget, which I believe is extremely meager, then set up an independant commission of enquiry, excluding of course, Liberal Party hacks and your corporate allies. You have no business to destroy the education system, including the democraticly elected school boards, which we British Columbians have struggled to establish, maintain and enhance over many decades.

    Sincerely,

    Peter Marcus

  5. Hello,
The Georgia Straight has an article if taxes should fund private schools. At the end of the article, you can vote.
    article:
B.C. trustees ask province to “redirect” private school funding to public education
    site:

FYI, Little Flower Academy is in the news for firing a lesbian teacher [who did not tell anyone of her orientation]. This school receives over $1 million in tax payers money.
    thanks, Jennifer

Where are the news reports for the Friday student rally at the Minister’s office?

I’m a dad of two boys attending Nootka and Ideal Mini. I also work at Gladstone. Thanks for setting this site up. Parents, especially non-Anglophone families, need an online clearinghouse for where, when, why, who and how to fight for our public schools.

The minister of education has not ruled out “appointed boards.” To me, this means our trustees are on the chopping block if they don’t do the chopping. The best way to be sure that we keep our trustees is to have literally thousands of people who will not go back to their lives until the VSB gets its money. Let’s get organizing!
